For service and reference purposes, coil springs are measured in ALL of the following dimensions.
- Relaxed Coil length.
- Coil diameter.
- Number of coils.
- Wire gauge.
- Each of the two extension end lengths are also measured separately from the end of the coil to the farthest wire extension point from the coil (*Do not include the reversed bend length at the end of each extension).
EXAMPLE: The proper way to indicate spring measurements (in inches) where x's represent actual measures would be:
- Relaxed Coil length = xx.x in.
- Coil Diameter = xx.x in.
- Number of coils = xx coils
- Wire gauge = xx ga.
- Extension end lengths = x.x in. AND x.x in.
The spring composition material and tensile strength are also important in determining and assuring the correct spring with regards to functionality in the application.
We recommend that all springs be replaced with the proper original equipment service spring to assure proper and safe operation. Click here for information on determining spring anchor positions.
